POSITION
Summary:
Embodying the belief that community colleges serve the greater good, and that all students can succeed, the Director of Athletics and Student Athlete Development will lead the college's intercollegiate athletic program.
The Director provides leadership in the ongoing recruitment and development of coaches and student athletes through coordination, planning, evaluation and implementation of programs.
The Director works with other departments at Delta College to optimize opportunities to recruit students; raise financial support for athletics and support college strategic plans and priorities related to equity, inclusion, student success and completion.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
Management and Supervision Develop a vision for the department that ensures care, safety, well-being, integrity, transparency and competitive success for all student-athletes representing Delta College.
Provide regular and real-time updates to Dean of Student Success on budgets and other important matters concerning the athletics programs and the well-being of student athletes.
Oversee the managing and monitoring of multiple budgets making sure they are fiscally responsible; home game management; procurement of athletic equipment, supplies and athletic training needs; and maintaining Athletic Policy and Procedures Handbooks, Coaches Handbook and Student-Athlete Handbook.
Actively work to align the mission, vision and goals of the intercollegiate athletic program with those of the college.
Approve the hiring of exceptional coaches, administrative staff, and other personnel associated with the department and conduct evaluations of all coaches.
Support the professional development of all staff members while acknowledging their accomplishments to promote a positive culture.
Ensure proper conduct of coaches and student athletes at events, on campus and in the community.
Develop processes and procedures to ensure accuracy of reporting and collecting data including, student success reports, weekly game eligibility reports, Equity in Athletics Reports, retention reports, and other grade information reporting.
Use institutional data and audits to form internal reports, Academic Progress Rate, Graduation Success Rate, non- academic learning outcomes, and progress toward a degree.
Maintain records and files related to athletics as it pertains to co-curricular assessments.
Rules and Regulations Ensure that all departments of athletics and college related activities operate in full compliance with College, MCCAA and NJCAA rules and regulations.
Represent the college at relevant NJCAA, MCCAA meetings and events.
Attend and participate in scheduled compliance seminars and comply with all the athletic department's efforts to monitor compliance with NJCAA regulations.
Report potential rule violations immediately.
Implement and disseminate pertinent information on MCCAA and NJCAA on athletics rules and relations, including compliance with Title IX regulations.
Oversee the procedures and documentation for ensuring academic eligibility for all student athletes in accordance with rules; supervises and sanctions and the medical and insurance clearance for each student athlete.
Marketing and Fundraising Serve as a strategist and collaborator with Delta College Foundations Office to maximize opportunities and coordinate efforts to raise funds to support athletic programs.
This is to include the development of team-specific fundraising events, hosting of events and off-season camps.
Collaborate with athletic coaches and staff to identify priority athletics fundraising needs.
Lead and coordinate all fundraising activities for the athletic department, especially sponsorships.
Oversee the development and implementation of a comprehensive athletic marketing plan, in collaboration with Delta College's Marketing Department.
Serve as the primary media contact for all sports, and handles media relations duties (requests, interviews, in coordination with Marketing).
Develop and maintain content on all social media platforms and Delta Athletic Pioneers website.
Create innovative outreach plans to increase on-campus engagement with students, faculty, staff, youth groups, local communities and alumni and create campus and community partnerships.
Student Success and Development Collaborate with Academic and Career Advising, Teaching and Learning and WRIT Center to develop an academic plan of success for student athletes.
Oversee the Athletic Academic Success Plan by serving as implementation coordinator to ensure student growth and success in and out of the classroom.
Inform and advise student athletes and staff on college, MCCAA and NJCAA rules on academic integrity, sportsmanship and educational opportunities.
Oversee leadership of Student Athlete Advisory Committee, led by student athletes.
Ensure student athletes complete campus-wide student activities/volunteering activities at least three times a semester.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent knowledge and skills.
1 - 3 years of position related experience Ability to work nights and weekends Valid driver's license Additional Experiences Considered NJCAA experience Community college experience Application Deadline Position will remain open until filled.
